Rep. Allen West recently gave an awesome speech to the Center for Security Policy.

While it seems that our media can only focus on one “crisis” at a time, Allen West never takes his eye off of all the threats to U.S. national security.

No teleprompter, you’ll notice. The man is a walking encyclopedia, and he can communicate.

What Paul Ryan does for budget issues, Allen West does for national security.

This speech was given six months before the November election — but it is more relevant now than ever.

Just in case you haven’t seen it yet —
here’s Allen West’s closing keynote speech at the Conservative Political Action Conference — in three parts:

The overall theme of his speech was something we’ve covered in this blog numerous times:  Reagan’s “three-legged stool” of conservatism — West calls them “three pillars”:  fiscal responsibility, national security, foundational values. He showed very persuasively that all three are necessary and how they interrelate.

I was grateful that he mentioned Hezbollah’s presence in South America and Mexico — not enough people even have that on their radar screens.

I was extremely impressed that, even though he has friendly relations with various gay people, and respects them as individuals — and even though CPAC has been riven this year by controversy over its co-sponsorship by GOProud, a gay advocacy group — West nonetheless had the courage to give a very articulate defense of the age-old definition of marriage.

Throughout his speech, West quoted from a luminous array of people including Abraham Lincoln, Alexis de Tocqueville, Sun Tzu and Edmund Burke.

The piece I liked best was near the end, where he showed how what are often called “family values” are key to everything else:

“If you break down the American family, that leads to government dependency —
which leads to the growth of government —
which … results in greater government spending.

The strength of America is in the strength of the bonds of the American family.”

The whole speech is solid gold.  In the comments section, tell us what you liked best.

Somehow, in the busy days leading up to Christmas, I missed this. Did you?

On December 12, Americans Against Hate, a predominantly Jewish group dedicated to fighting anti-Semitism with truth, bestowed its “Protector of Zion” award on Allen West. There are so many choice lines in West’s awesome acceptance speech that I kept wanting to pause the video and write down his words!  Here’s a good one:

There is nothing wrong with standing upon the Judeo-Christian faith heritage that we find in the United States, that we find in Israel, that we find all across Western civilization.

Talk about politically incorrect! No wonder the Left hates him so much!

We have got to recognize who the enemy is. Because my fear is that right now we are standing in a 1930s Neville Chamberlain moment.

Yessir, and you, Congressman West, are our Winston Churchill!

Readers, take a few minutes to watch the whole thing, because this warrior-scholar-leader packs more insight into nine minutes than anyone else I can think of.  As many of Allen West’s speeches as I have watched, and as many books as I’ve read about Islam, I still learn some new fact or gain some new insight from this man every time I hear him speak.  He is simply amazing.

Allen West Speaks Truth on a Sunday Morning

I recommend it highly. In my opinion, Allen West is a very good preacher.

In the span of 22 minutes, he makes many good points, but what stands out for me, personally, is his point that good leadership entails calling people back to God’s Word.  When a nation rebels against God, it loses the hedge of protection that God has placed around it — and without that protection, things go bad, very bad.

The implication (he didn’t say this next part, I’m just putting two and two together here) is that if you are a leader of people — if you are responsible for protecting them — then you would be remiss in your job if you didn’t at least point out the ways that we are tearing down God’s freely offered protection of our nation and thus making ourselves vulnerable to all manner of dangers and threats!

West does point out that the Bible, and Judeo-Christian principles, are what this country, speaking solely in terms of history, really and truly was founded on. I’ve heard him say on other occasions that our unique form of government, with its liberty and justice for all, is only possible because of our unique Constitution–and that that Constitution is the product of a Judeo-Christian worldview.

Anyhow, I’m going on too long here — what you really need to do is to get on over to The Right Scoop and listen to Allen West!
